Emotional Culture - The Other Side of Cultural Change

Manage Your Emotional Culture by Sigal Barsade and Olivia A. O'Neill

When you think about how people work together, culture should always come up. It's how we interact with each other and ultimately contributes to our output and successes. Very powerful stuff. Culture has become a buzzword and I think this article
does a great job of discussing more of the social science and behavioral aspects of culture to actually gain insight to improve your own company culture.

Why I liked this article: There is a healthy conversation about acting like you care (surface acting) vs. actually believing you care (deep acting) and how each delivers different levels of empathy. I really enjoyed the self-awareness piece too, instructing people to be cognizant of your own body language and its effects on culture. The authors also include some great examples of companies that create a culture not just of "joy" but of "love and compassion". They quickly show an example to, of how fear can ruin a masterplan. Really insightful stuff - enjoy!
